Manslaughter

Manslaughter is generally defined as the unlawful killing of another without intent to kill; either voluntary (upon a sudden impulse); or involuntary (during the commission of an unlawful act not ordinarily expected to result in great bodily harm).

Vehicular manslaughter

Vehicular manslaughter results in the death of another because of negligent handling of a car due to another act that does not equal a felony. Most states have vehicular manslaughter statutes. The effect is to make the car a deadly weapon. Vehicular manslaughter results in easier convictions and more serious penalties. Oddly enough studies shows that those convicted of vehicular are given shorter sentences than other homicides.
